Right now l'm reading "The President Street Boys : Growing Up Mafia" by Frank Di Matteo. The is a non-fiction based on his life growing up with the Italian Mafia and going the mob. The book takes place during the 1960's and he uses good diction to make you visualize like you were actually there.
Frank uses allusion in the book by comparing movies like "The Godfather", "Wise Guys" and of course "Scarface". I'm guessing he uses allusion to make the reader understand a bit better of how life was back then during gang wars and kidnapping etc. In the book, on page 59, it talks about how a crew member called Jelly was killed on his boat and got chopped into pieces and put his ring finger in a box to send to the boss, and the box had a not that said "Jelly swims with the fishes now". So... Jelly's pieces were thrown in the water.
